Mediation and Negotiation… A step against violent extremism

“Fi9 – Up & Living Peace” is a project that strengthens the commitment to live in PEACE and to counter violent extremism. It comprises three major strands, beginning with building the capacities of women, young people and imams through a series of training courses (mediation and negotiation, education for peace, the role of religious discourse in spreading values of tolerance and coexistence).

The second stage concerns community initiatives, through which the association organises the Unity Marathon with the help of citizens and athletes, then installs the “Die of Peace” in the city centre, each face bearing a positive message to spread a culture of education for peace.

To complete the project, we will produce a document on education for peace in Médenine, presenting the project’s results and community dialogue, together with a participatory guide for exchanging local and international experiences, to be adopted with our youth and education institutions to create peace-education clubs in the region.

On 28–29 March 2019 we held our first meeting with the participants, a training session for women of Médenine and Béni Khedache on “Mediation and Negotiation”. Its aim is to promote and improve women’s resilience in preventing and combating the root causes of radicalisation and violent extremism, contributing to the spread of a culture of peace in urban and rural communities.
