This project was born from the success of the cultural project Label’zik, funded by the German Embassy in Tunisia through the “Culture for All” fund. It was the first festival in the Médenine region to give more than 100 dancers the chance to express themselves freely over three days, and 18 dancers the chance to receive pedagogical support from specialists.
Here we discover our region’s thirst for such cultural activities, and the will, talent and love of our young people for dance – yet this passion cannot be channelled into a structured framework because of the absence of dance schools and even of professional dancers holding certifications proving their craft. Hence the idea of Label’zik Sud-Est: a chance for young people to become not just amateurs but dancers certified by the French company VAGABOND CREW, with an opportunity for other young people from south-eastern Tunisia (Gabès, Tataouine, Médenine).
