Education for peace… Education for non-violence

The year 2000 was declared the Year of the Culture of Peace by the international community at its 53rd General Assembly in July 1999 – a way of giving priority to dialogue in resolving conflicts, building the capacity to appreciate differences, and ultimately promoting a culture of PEACE.

“Education for Peace” was one of the training courses organised by Association La Voix de l’Enfant Rural as part of the “Fi9 – Up & Living Peace” project funded by UNDP. The training benefited around thirty young people from Médenine and Béni Khedache and was led by the international expert Dr Bahjin Saïd, of Moroccan origin, a specialist in education for peace worldwide.

This training was only a beginning, a starting point to climb together towards the summit of peace and rebuild our outlook towards a more peaceful reality. In the coming months, the participants will run an activity for other young people who wish to reveal a basic reality that has become threatened as never before – which makes education for peace a necessity.
