Childhood has no age – it is a promise!

“Puppets on the Road” is a “travelling project” across two governorates (Médenine, Tataouine – Remada), aiming to meet children and adolescents of different generations while fostering civic participation and the socio-cultural inclusion of children through one simple medium: the puppet. It targets 60 children aged between 9 and 15.

The planned activities are days of recording popular and mythical stories, a training course in puppet-making based on the characters of a folk tale, and a theatrical-script training course, ending with a puppet-theatre festival.

When the puppets come to life! The “Puppets on the Road” festival aims to promote the art of the puppet and to make its evolution known and appreciated in disadvantaged areas thirsty for culture. For two days it was the celebration of our puppets, accompanied by majorettes from Ksar Hellal and charming characters dressed as cartoon figures.

Remada, a border region lacking every means of leisure, is not afraid to face and overcome alongside its children to make their voices and rights heard: more than 200 children took part to animate their “childhood festivities” on the same day as the festival, with more than 200 people in the audience to encourage the talents and the passion for art in all its forms. From Remada to Médenine, rural areas such as Ouerjijen, Hassi Médenine and Ben Gardane especially stand out, calling for cultural support for their children – a thirst expressed through wonderful shows made by children’s own hands to say out loud: “We can express ourselves just like you.”
