Beekeeping towards sustainable development

The project “Beekeeping towards sustainable development” focuses on empowering young rural women by creating income-generating activities (setting up small beehives for 25 young rural women in the Djerba–Ajim area).

Our actions include: organising information and awareness days on the importance of beekeeping; running practical, ongoing training sessions for the young women involved; organising visits to beekeepers in other regions to identify successful micro-enterprises; meeting various local actors to map the links of the value chain; preparing a study with the stakeholders to identify the sector’s obstacles and propose solutions; producing an action plan and an agreement between partners and programme contracts; seeking funders and negotiating with development actors to access state subsidies for the sector; helping to create a mutual service company and a producer-support service; and creating jobs and improving incomes.

The project aims to: raise awareness and train young women in beekeeping techniques (quality training); study the beekeeping sector to better organise and develop it and ensure continuous production; and contribute to job creation and the improvement of young women’s living conditions.
